Independence of the Seas

A familiar friend for British cruisers — now sailing warm-weather short breaks from Florida.

Independence of the Seas launched in 2008 as the third Freedom-class sister and had a substantial amplification in 2018 — a full Perfect Storm waterslide trio, Sky Pad bungee trampoline, Splashaway Bay, refreshed staterooms and dining. She spent many years as the UK's summer favourite ex-Southampton and is now based at Port Canaveral for short 3- and 4-night Bahamas and Caribbean sailings — a brilliant add-on to a Florida holiday.

Onboard

Standout features, at a glance.

A high-level look. We'll go deeper on any of these — including the shows worth pre-booking — when we speak.

The Perfect Storm waterslides

Three racing waterslides added in the 2018 amplification — the trio of colours you spot in every post-amp photo of Independence.

Sky Pad & Splashaway Bay

Sky Pad is the VR-enabled bungee trampoline experience unique to a handful of ships, and Splashaway Bay is the dedicated kids' water park — genuinely sized for young children.

FlowRider, rock wall & Sky Climber

The rear-deck FlowRider surf simulator, the classic Royal Caribbean rock wall and the Sky Climber ropes course — all free to use.

Chops, Giovanni's, Izumi & Playmakers

A strong speciality dining line-up including the UK-flavoured Fish & Ships takeaway added in the amplification — a nod to her Southampton heritage.

Adventure Ocean, Fuel & The Living Room

Well-established kids' clubs by age, plus the Fuel teen club and The Living Room lounge — one of Royal Caribbean's original strengths, still done well.

Add-on to Orlando

Port Canaveral is roughly an hour from the Orlando theme parks — a 3- or 4-night cruise pairs beautifully with a week at Disney or Universal.

Cabins & where to book

Not all balconies are equal.

On a short 3- or 4-night sailing, cabin choice matters less than on a two-week voyage — but the wrong pick still stings. Independence has some quirks worth knowing: superb-value connecting cabins on Deck 10, and a handful of outside cabins on Deck 2 that can be noisy under the Royal Promenade.

We'll steer you clear of the obstructed views, the cabins under the pool deck and the noisy connecting doors — and towards the ones that quietly go for the same money.

Best value

Balcony, mid-ship Deck 7 or 8

Steady, quiet, close to the lifts and one deck below the Royal Promenade action. The cabin repeat Independence cruisers rebook without thinking.

Family sweet spot

Connecting Ocean View, Deck 10

Two cabins with an interior door — far cheaper than a family suite and perfect for two adults + two kids on a short cruise.

Splurge

Grand Suite, Deck 10

Full suite privileges (Concierge Club, priority tender, reserved theatre seats) without the price of an Owner's Suite.

Avoid

Deck 2 outside cabins under the Promenade

Noise carries down from the Royal Promenade until late. We'll flag exact cabin numbers before you commit.

Year-round

3-night Bahamas from Port Canaveral

Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay — the classic weekend cruise, and a brilliant add-on to an Orlando theme-park holiday.

Year-round

4-night Bahamas & Perfect Day

Adds a second CocoCay day or a Cozumel call — a bit more variety without stretching the annual leave.

Selected dates

Longer Western Caribbean runs

Occasional 6- and 7-night sailings adding Grand Cayman, Cozumel or Roatán — worth catching when the calendar allows.

Why book Independence of the Seas with Valora

A Royal Guru in your corner.

  • Independence pairs beautifully with a week in Orlando — we'll build the full package (theme parks, hotel, transfers, cruise) with a trusted partner and a named Royal Guru for the cruise itself.
  • Perfect Day at CocoCay is included, but the cabanas and Thrill Waterpark aren't — we'll tell you which extras are actually worth pre-booking.
  • Honest advice on drinks and dining packages — on a 3-night sailing, most people over-buy. We'll size it to how you actually cruise.
  • We'll pair the cruise with the right Port Canaveral or Orlando pre-night hotel — the port hotels aren't always the best value.
  • Named Royal Guru on WhatsApp before, during and after — not a call-centre queue.
